45. Podcast Update | Special Episode: A New Phase Of The Podcast

Scott Langdon [00:00:17] This is GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast. A dramatic adaptation and continuing discussion of the book God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher by Jerry L. Martin. He was a lifelong agnostic, but one day he had an occasion to pray. To his vast surprise, God answered- in words. Being a philosopher, he had a lot of questions, and God had a lot to tell him. Episode 45.

Scott Langdon [00:01:14] Hello, this is Scott Langdon, Creative Director of GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast. Welcome to Season four. So far, seasons one through three have been a dramatic adaptation of Jerry Martin's book God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher. Having concluded the adaptation in Episode 44, the final episode of season three, we now begin season four and a brand new ongoing format. Today, I'd like to let you in on some of the things that will be coming your way as listeners to this podcast, as we move forward with this revelatory work.

[00:02:01] Before I begin with what lies ahead, let me briefly recap what's gone before. Episodes one through 44 are a dramatic adaptation of God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher by Jerry L. Martin. This original idea of a dramatic adaptation blossomed into 44 episodes of discussions between God and Jerry Martin, just as they are in the book, discussions that seem like they are happening right before your ears. When I first read the book, I felt it needed some kind of dramatic treatment. But the fact is, God talking to Jerry was dramatic enough. The real need, I later understood, was to have two distinct voices enact the drama already inherent in the text of Jerry's remarkable book, and to have the voice of God be read by the one who heard the voice to begin with, and that obviously could only be Jerry Martin. So, in this dramatic adaptation, I speak the voice of Jerry, both as narrator and as Jerry in conversation with God, and Jerry Martin himself speaks the voice of God.

Scott Langdon [00:03:07] I mean, can you imagine sitting on a park bench and just feeling grateful to be alive and to be in love and expressing that gratitude by feeling compelled to pray, and that prayer of gratitude and offering to be of service actually gets answered in words? For Jerry, it sounded something like this:

The Voice of God - Jerry L. Martin [00:03:25] Listen.

Jerry Martin - voiced by Scott Langdon [00:03:29] The Voice did not sound particularly different from my own inner voice, but it wasn't me talking. I looked at Abigail to see if she heard it, but she continued writing, undisturbed. I asked, not out loud. What is this voice? Who are you?

The Voice of God - Jerry L. Martin [00:03:50] I am God.

Jerry Martin - voiced by Scott Langdon [00:03:52] The God of Israel?

The Voice of God - Jerry L. Martin [00:03:53] I am the God of all.

Scott Langdon [00:03:58] That was a clip from our very first episode, season one, episode one, where God first speaks to Jerry. We figured the best one to communicate the voice of God was the one who heard it to begin with. So, what you as an audience get to hear is a beautiful communication, straight from God through Jerry to all of our hearts.

Scott Langdon [00:04:34] During the course of making this podcast, each one of us on the team realized that we were having our own experience with God: An Autobiography. We thought with season four, you, as the audience, might like to hear a little bit of what happens behind the scenes. And, so, season four will consist of a series of interviews with all of us here at GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast, beginning next week, October 28th, with part one of my two-part interview with Jerry Martin, himself. Part two of that interview will drop on November 4th, the following week. Moving forward after that, we'll flip things around slightly and Jerry will interview me, beginning on November 12th. Season four will also include interviews with Abigail Rosenthal, Jerry's wife, who was also significantly impacted by this encounter. She speaks her own voice in a couple of early episodes. Here is Abigail from season one, episode two.

Abigail Rosenthal - voiced by Abigail Rosenthal [00:05:29] I thought you were engaged in a sensitive communication.

Jerry Martin - voiced by Scott Langdon [00:05:33] She would later explain.

Abigail Rosenthal - voiced by Abigail Rosenthal [00:05:35] And I did not want to create static.

Jerry Martin - voiced by Scott Langdon [00:05:39] Then one day she did speak up.

Abigail Rosenthal - voiced by Abigail Rosenthal [00:05:43] Are you going to take the voice seriously or is this just entertainment?

Scott Langdon [00:06:05] We, here at GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast, are very excited about what lies ahead. From behind-the-scenes interviews with those of us who created the podcast, to interviews that Jerry has had with other listeners and readers of the book whose lives have been impacted because of the conversations that God has had with Jerry. I sincerely hope you will join us for season four of GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast, as we take you through the remainder of 2021, and coming in 2022, GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast will continue with season five, where we will explore some of the life lessons we can take from Jerry's interactions with God. I hope you'll stay with us as we continue to experience the world from God's perspective, as it was told to a philosopher. I'll see you next time.
