Scott Langdon [00:00:17] This is God: An Autobiography, The Podcast. A dramatic adaptation and continuing discussion of the book God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher by Jerry L. Martin. He was a lifelong agnostic, but one day he had an occasion to pray. To his vast surprise, God answered- in words. Being a philosopher, he had a lot of questions, and God had a lot to tell him. Episode 56. Hello, this is Scott Langdon, creative director of God: An Autobiography, The Podcast.

Scott Langdon [00:01:19] Welcome to 2022. As we move into this new year, we here at the podcast thought it would be a great time to look ahead to what we'll be bringing you over the next several weeks right here on this program. If you're new to GOD: An Autobiography, The Podcast, first, let me welcome you. We're so glad you're with us.

Scott Langdon [00:01:46] Episodes one through 44 of our podcast are where you'll find the dramatic audio adaptation of Jerry Martin's book God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher. From there, we created episodes 45 through 55, where I sat down individually with each member of the creative team here at God: An Autobiography, The Podcast for a conversation about what it was like making the audio adaptation and what kind of an impact God had on our lives while doing so. I really enjoyed those very special episodes, especially episode 54, where I got to interview my wife, Sarah. But now we're moving in a slightly new direction.

Scott Langdon [00:02:33] Moving forward, we're going to be exploring what others have been saying, including you, the listeners, in response to the message of God: An Autobiography, The Podcast and the book from which it was adapted GOD: An Autobiography As Told To A Philosopher by Jerry L. Martin. To do this, we're going to adjust our format slightly for this new season of the podcast. Here's what's coming up in season five.

Scott Langdon [00:03:24] Beginning next week, we'll bring you a series of conversations Jerry had about his book with philosopher and religious scholar Dr. Richard Oxenberg. Before I came to this project and well before the creation of this podcast, Richard and Jerry sat down for several conversations about the book. God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher. In those conversations about the book, Jerry and Richard break down some of the difficult, philosophical and spiritual challenges God presents to Jerry. And these two philosophers go back and forth in their discussions in an effort to bring clarity of meaning and further understanding to this new revelation. Why is this important? Here's a clip from the very beginning of Jerry and Richard's first conversation, in which Richard and Jerry explain their reason for having these dialogues in the first place.

Dr. Richard Oxenberg [00:04:13] Your experiences are very interesting and unusual and raise endless questions really, which are worth exploring. The title of your book is God: An Autobiography, As Told To A Philosopher. I'm assuming that if God chose a philosopher to tell his autobiography to, then He is not going to be averse to some philosophical question.

Dr. Jerry L. Martin [00:04:44] Philosophical questions.

Dr. Richard Oxenberg [00:04:44] Of that story.

Dr. Jerry L. Martin [00:04:44] Yes. Exactly.

Dr. Richard Oxenberg [00:04:48] So, I guess what I'm hoping we'll be able to do is basically just have a conversation.

Dr. Jerry L. Martin [00:04:54] Yes.

Dr. Richard Oxenberg [00:04:54] Have a series of conversations about the book. I'll bring up questions that it raises in my mind and we can talk about it.

Dr. Jerry L. Martin [00:05:03] Yes.

Dr. Richard Oxenberg [00:05:04] That's my thought.

Dr. Jerry L. Martin [00:05:05] Yes, exactly.

Scott Langdon [00:05:13] In Season five of our podcast we'll present these conversations to you along with some other new and exciting material, including an invitation for you, our listeners, to post questions for Jerry Martin, which he will answer on this podcast. If you have a question in response to anything you've been hearing about God: An Autobiography, whether it's come from listening to this podcast or reading the book, please feel personally invited to go to godanautobiography.com and pose your question.
